I ain't intend to turn this into Euro surrealist week but the universe keeps on passin the dutchie so we follow suit. For your pleasure please view Muzorama, a depthy barnburning sortie into the dream-logic universe of French illustrator Muzo, made in six weeks by students at Supinfocom (Arles campus). Watch, dig, spread.

UPDATE: Authentic 2-D Muzo to be had in Les Très Riches Heures du Cannabis, published in ancient times (1998), lookable on scribd and gettable at amazon.fr. Let's all learn French, why don't we.

  • The More Things Change

Welcome back from the holidays. We are all overjoyed!

It ain't exactly news (c. 2008, spring) but all human beings deserve to remember that Italian muralist & illustrator BLU did an enormous thing to unsuspecting walls in Argentina & Germany. Seriously, watch:

Download it for yr own self al suo sito. This has been your decennial reminder to write in books and paint on walls.

  • GOOD OLE AMERICAN PARTTTY LIFFFE

Margot Padilla is a renaissance woman and should probaly be president of "non-shitty" america. She has a brilliant celebrity zine Totally Mag (totallymag.tk) that you may have seen on your LA friend's stack of graphic novels when you weren't allowed to sleep on the huge couch because new dick roommate doesn't know how to chill. She has a website that takes it back to the pure world of personal homepages / category buttons / x-files (prettycoolland.com), and she makes bleak / rager rave / bitcore /paegent anthems as I.E. (www.myspace.com/inlaempyre) featuring lyrics like "You ain't shit,You ain't shit,You ain't shit, Bitch *Click*You're off my myspace, go back to friendster bitch". It makes me smile.

You know I'm basically going to heart anyone that treats the internet like the monkey bars and life like the geodesic dome that they don't have in playgrounds anymore. I was going to create the Q&A multiline Google Wave Interview matrix but thats not really in the spirit of MVP. Heres our very special e-mail exchange:

    > Who is the best person to look at computer things with?
    > Angie Olsen or Kyle H. Mabson

    > Tell me about the confluence of events that brought to life IE:

    > why does everyone in IE claim LA? Quem Quaeritis broke up, Prayer partner broke up, love making music.

    > How important is Totally Mag and why?

    > It's significant in the zine world i think it was one of the first to stray away from political rants, and riot girl diy stuff that is is    good in its own way i guess.

    > 2012 predictions:

    > all major webhosts and e-business' battle it out over who is the ruler of the internet. ie will have toured the east coast. brangelina divorce.

    > Tell me a bong story.
    > the first time i knocked over a bong my father yelled out "man, margot, you spilt the bong." i had to clean it up and it smelled so raunchy i learned that under any circumstance never spill the bong it is almost impossible to get out that bong water smell and its nasty. i think since the age of 13 i only spilled the bong water like 4x damn thats alot.

    > What else should I be asking you questions about?
    > i'm always experimenting with and making music. i plan on touring the east coast by the end of next year. my favorite color is red. my favorite fast food is del taco, my favorite band is raunchous brothers,
<for now. i'm here for friends and networking.

Follow IE @TotallyMag on Twitter, buy her album discs and try to be more like her.

  • COMBAT PAPER PROJECT

Through papermaking workshops veterans use their uniforms worn in combat to create cathartic works of art. The uniforms are cut up, beat and formed into sheets of paper. Veterans use the transformative process of papermaking to reclaim their uniform as art and begin to embrace their experiences as a soldier in war.

The goal is to utilize art as a means to help veterans reconcile their personal experiences as well as broaden the traditional narrative surrounding service, honor and the military culture.

  • The Anthropic Principle

Following a conversation in which the term was used, I checked Wikipedia for information on the "Anthropic Principle", for it was new to me.

Then I cribbed some of the entry and re-posted it here as this week's What Would Google Think?, the blog series where I place Google's Adsense ads in obscure and/or strange contexts, to see what pops.

Mostmodernist has achieved the level one threshold: we get spambot comments. The first time this editor saw one, this editor was flattered, and not because the spambots were finally paying attention. It was the spambots smooth operation.

  • This You Don't Want To See

The scene of the attack outside of Fenger High School in Chicago where Derrion Albert, 16, was beaten to death.

The People of Chicago have a duty to watch this and think about the political and social conditions which contribute to horrific crime, poverty and the top-down institutionalization of inequality in education and opportunity. Democracy means we're all responsible for these conditions, and for rectifying them.

  • Sociographology

There is an interesting piece in the NYTimes Magazine about a particular scientific study of social networks, modeled using gobs of handwritten data from research begun in 1948 by the National Heart Institute which "followed more than 15,000 Framingham (Massachusetts) residents and their descendants, bringing them in to a doctor’s office every four years, on average, for a comprehensive physical."

The report of the study is that we are affected by people we may not even know, through 2nd and 3rd string connections. To wit: if a friend of a friend is happy, your happiness is heightened to some degree. If a friend of theirs gains weight, you incur a residual likelihood of same.
